Yeah, I'm a Nerd

From the home of nerdy scientists with a weird sense of humor like me, www.xkcd.com For a larger image, click on the picture
Sometimes I have to just sit back and say "wow the world is so incredibly awesome."  Just think about how our circularity system works, the most modern heating and cooling systems are just starting to emulate it.  The deeper I go into looking at tiny world that surrounds us I become more amazed.  There is life that only has one cell.  Its fully capable of eating and reproducing itself.  It can move about and responds to its environment.  And it is only one cell.  Isn't that incredible?  And even smaller, the floor you are standing on has hardly any density to it at all, it is mostly empty space, with a really tiny particle thrown in here and there for good measure.  And who knows how much smaller things get!

Thank you for allowing me a little time to express my wonder at this Creation God has given us.  I hope I have inspired you to look about you more as you go from point a to point b. Oh and light is made up of particles, actual particles, that have mass.  Isn't that so cool!

Homewardness!

I have plane tickets home!  I will be getting back to the states May 19th and leaving June 27th.  It has been nearly 18 months since I have been back.  I am really looking forward to the chance to relax and reconnect with friends, family and supporters.

It will be the last breath before the plunge, as the next year is going to be very intense.  As soon as I get back, actually before I leave, we are kicking prep for the SDF 2011 into high gear.  Pretty much on the heals of the SDF will we start pre-production for our first feature film that we will be shooting early next year.  Which then goes into Post production, which will go until SDF 2012's prep begins.  So yeah, I have my next 18 months planned out.

I look forward to seeing you all when I get back!

A Musical Note

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of helping to do some recording for a day in the music studio we have on campus. The normal guy had just got back from India and was a bit sick The MAD DTS (see sidebar) had just come back from outreach and the musicians had a week to record any songs they wanted. Most of the songs were ones the students had written. As they graduated last night, I kept thinking how much I enjoyed that day. Some of the talent I heard coming out of that room, was incredible. It makes me think how blessed I am to be here and get to share in the experience.

Throughout 2010 we had about 100 students come through our different discipleship training schools. With each one, I had the opportunity to help them grow and encourage them. Sometimes I just have to stop and say wow, my life is incredible.

Interval Training

I am sometimes constantly amazed at the intricate ways in which God works, (kind of like my mom, one of the best coordinators I know).  Here's the example that sparked this blog:

I was recently talking to one of my friends about working out.  She was suggesting that instead of just running at a set speed, I would get a better work out if I varied the speed, interval training.  She explained that the heart will actually get used to a level of work and then not have to work as hard.  But by changing speed, my body would actually work harder, and my heart would get much stronger.

The next day, during a community prayer time, another friend and I were talking about what God had been talking about to us.  He told me that he was learning that God takes us through seasons of worship.  During some seasons our times of worship are combined with immersion in God's presence.  Other seasons His glory seems further away.

I had been struggling with (for a long time), "What's wrong with me?"  God never seemed close anymore, I never felt His presence, never had a desire to leap about the room during worship.  During this period God had told me, several times, to remember what he had done in me before.  I have seen demons cast out, I have seen miracles performed.  But, now, I doubted everything.  I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was separating me from the closeness of God, because the feeling was gone.

Talking to my friend finally something had clicked.  I had assumed that since God doesn't change, it must be me changing.  But God does lead us through "interval training."  He changes things up to keep us from going stale.  Times of rest, and times of trial.  The funny thing is as I write this I can think of countless verses that scream the same thing at me, but I never picked it up.  I guess God was just waiting for the right interval.

A Fistful of Staples

So, this is just a little film that Josh Potthoff and I made because we were bored. It also happens to be in QFHD which is 4 times the resolution of HD. I think its pretty cool. :)
